Service Options
In order to make your coaching experience as effective as possible, I offer three service option pathways. Whether you want an open-ended engagement, a goal-oriented approach, or to simply know that someone is on call, I am confident we can find an arrangement that works for you.
Ongoing
A very common service arrangement is ongoing work. Whether weekly or biweekly, this a builds a client/coach relationship that is most supportive and conducive to meaningful change. Not to be confused with “indefinite”, an “ongoing” structure is goal oriented and open-ended in order to attend to both specific and emergent needs in the areas of client interest.
Packages
If you have a targeted need, for example how to more effectively supervise a particular staff member, I offer 6-, 12- or 18-session packages where we backward design the coaching structure to hit that particular goal. Of course, you can renew, change or extend your chosen package at any time.
Retainer
This is a common service arrangement for organizations where there is a broader need for support (e.g. organizational restructuring). Under a retainer, the institution pays for a certain number of coaching hours per week or month and staff can self-schedule. Retainer packages are typically for quarterly intervals of 3-, 6-, 9- and 12 months.
My Approach
Based on over 30 years of coaching, consulting, teaching, training, and strategic advising it is clear that one size definitely does not fit all. That is why I will work with you to determine which combination of Callyman’s four coaching elements you are looking for (ranging from one to all) and the proportion you want them in. This process allows us to tailor a coaching experience that meets your specific needs while still leveraging my decades of experience.
Inquiry
Traditional coaching approaches are almost exclusively inquiry based with the idea that the client already knows the best solution and the coach simply uses thoughtful questioning to bring it to the surface. As a former college professor I can attest to the efficacy of this approach and I employ it in my coaching using critical thinking tools, backward design, and more standard inquiry-based strategies. If you are looking for prompts to help you think through your current situation and take the next, best step, this element is one you will want to emphasize.
Change Navigation
While individual or organizational change can be unnerving, even scary at times, it does not have to be. Strong support, clear vision and thoughtful strategy are effective salves to the challenges of change. As a strategic thought partner I can help you navigate change personally, professionally and organizationally with various support, vision and strategy tools that connect your big picture to concrete, everyday actionable steps. And, if your particular challenge has to do with identity and social equity issues, I have a wide range of ways to help you use an equity lens for meaningful growth and development.
Support
The irony of modern modalities of connection (social media, 24-hour news) is that our society is actually more atomized, isolated, disconnected and lonely. These latter dynamics can have serious consequences for the health and wellbeing of individuals and even the culture and values of an organization. If you are in need of a supportive and encouraging dialogical space as you work through a current challenge, my coaching creates that for you via tools like reflective listening, personal inventory, and motivation mapping.
Education
While traditional query and reflection are effective coaching tools, on occasion a client will be operating under some misinformation. In those moments simply asking questions is not enough and can even make matters worse by leaving a client floundering. In such cases I provide what I call “knowledge and skill drops” where I briefly, and with your permission, share concrete information to extend your knowledge, skill and ongoing application. That said, this is your journey and I am incredibly careful not to cross the line into “telling”. The educational components I provide are merely meant to help light a path, not tell you where, when or how to walk it.
About Heather
I love coaching because the one-on-one connection creates a relational, engaged dialogical space unlike any other. The focus and trust present in a coaching relationship allows me to utilize the full range of my professional and personal experience in the service of helping others find their way. The lens I bring to my coaching is a solid mix of my professional experience as a teacher, trainer and business owner, my personal experience in meditation, healing and recovery, and my ethical commitment to social equity / social justice issues and making the world a better place for us all.
My Style
My style is the culmination of my many years of professional and personal work. Like all coaches, I can subtly adjust various elements of my approach to best connect with you and meet your needs. For example, I often toggle along continua of:
- Logical thinking <> empathy and emotional intelligence
- Serious attention <> humor and joy
- Strategic approach < emergence and curiosity
- Concrete action <> visioning and imagination
- Agnostic appraisal <> ethical and spiritual groundedness

My Lens
My lens on this work extends beyond traditional coaching and draws from my 35 years as a teacher, trainer, CEO, consultant and, of course, coach. If you are looking for a dynamic perspective that can help you navigate a wide range of challenging issues, my lens will be a good choice for you.

FAQs
Quick answers to help you decide whether we are a good fit before you reach out.
I am similar in that I have a lot of experience and use inquiry as a main means of supporting your process. I am different in that my approach also includes a few other elements (support, education and change navigation) that many traditional coaches do not offer.
I primarily offer video call (Zoom) sessions, but can also do phone calls and in-office sessions in the Minneapolis/Saint Paul area.
Yes, my coaching is rooted in the basic principles of change and so it is as applicable to personal/life challenges as it is to work/professional challenges. My goal is to support you in whatever growth trajectory you are in. Importantly, coaching is no substitute for therapy and that genre of long-term support, and I strongly support all clients in finding that kind of provider if necessary.
Step One: You answer the three “connect” questions to help me initially understand what you are looking for:
1. Are you looking for individual, organizational or coach-the-coach work?
2. Have you had a coach before?
3. Are you thinking this will be short-, medium-, or long-term work?
Step Two: We have an initial 45-minute introductory call (on Zoom or phone).
Step Three: You then fill out the short intake form to decide on a few more specifics of the engagement. This helps us co-create the best experience for you.
Step Four: We have a trial period of a few sessions to make sure you are getting your needs met and it’s the best fit.
